Biography
Lisa Barmby is an Australian artist, who has spent many years working and living in Europe. Barmby lived in Paris from 1989-94 and studied a diploma of drama at Ecole Florent. In 1997 Barmby completed a Diploma of Visual Arts at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. Barmby has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Australia and France including Sous le Ciel de Paris, Galerie Vivienne, Paris (2003); Venezia-Australis, Australian Artists in Venice 1900-2000, Castlemaine Museum and Art Gallery (2005); Peggy & Venice, Mailbox 141 (2009); Slender Harbour, Linden Centre for Contemporary Art (2010); A Venice of the Mind, Italian Cultural Institute (2012). Recent awards and prizes include a Linden Innovators Award, 2009, a 2010 travel grant by the Ian Potter Cultural Trust and a residency at La Scuola Internazionale di Grafica in Venice, 2010. In addition to her practice as an artist, Barmby has worked in film and theatre. In 1996, Barmby produced, translated and performed in Le Bel Indifferent by Jean Cocteau. In 1998, awarded an Australia Council grant, Barmby translated and performed in S.E.A.M., Mallarmé Festival, Alliance Française de Melbourne. Over the last ten years, Barmby has also collaborated with her Australian artist husband, Tom Alberts, in an independent feature film-noir, The Big Kitty, (due for release 2020) with all characters performed by artists friends, well known in Melbourne’s art scene, Barmby’s home town.

Elle fut lauréate en 2009 du prix Linden Innovateurs, puis boursière du Ian Potter Cultural Trust et de La Scuola Internazionale di Grafica à Venise, en 2010. Outre sa pratique artistique, Lisa Barmby travaille pour le cinéma et le théâtre. En 1996, Lisa Barmby produit, traduit et joue dans Le Bel Indifférent de Jean Cocteau. En 1998, récompensée d’une subvention du Conseil de l’Australie, elle traduit et joue dans S.E.A.M., lors du Festival Mallarmé, à l’Alliance Française de Melbourne. Au cours des dix dernières années, Lisa Barmby a également collaboré avec son mari, l’artiste australien Tom Alberts, à un long métrage The Big Kitty, (la première aura lieu en 2019) - les personnages sont pour la plupart interpétés par des artistes bien connus de la scène artistique de Melbourne, la ville natale de Lisa Barmby.
